The best way to visit Elba island is by car or by motorbike. Many people would think that being Elba island so small, you can visit it in one day, but there are so many beaches and places to see that it is better having your own transportation to move around it. It is anyway possible to use other means of transportations.
FROM PORTOFERRAIO (APPROX 16 km):
1) once disembarked follow direction to Porto Azzurro/Capoliveri. Once reached Mola turn right direction Capoliveri
2) cross the village and follow direction Morcone/Pareti-Innamorata
3) by the Morcone Bay follow the main road (direction Camping Croce del Sud) until you'll find the sign for Villa Europa (on your left)
4) after the sign take the first way up on your right.
FROM PORTO AZZURRO (approx km 10): once disembarked follow direction to Capoliveri and then see instructions above point 2).
FROM RIO MARINA (approx 14 km): Once disembarked follow direction Porto Azzurro and then see instructions above point 2).
At your arrival in Elba, in Portoferrario, there is a taxi point by the quay. It is suggested to agree on a price in advance for the journey Portoferraio-Morcone.
At your arrival in Portoferraio, you will find the bus line n. 117 of the Azienda Trasporti Livornese (the local bus company) which departs from the quayside and reaches Capoliveri (info: www.atl.livorno.it). During the summer months from Capoliveri to Morcone there is the bus service "spiagge" (beaches) (info: www.infoelba.it)
In Portoferraio, in front of the quayside at the disembarkation point there is the Car and Scooter rental service. It is possible to find other rental services in other parts of the island.

BY TRAIN | The train station to reach Elba island is the one of Piombino Marittima. On the train line from Pisa to Rome, the station connected to Piombino is the one of Campiglia Marittima. From here local trains or bus services of Trenitalia will take you to Piombino Marittima. From Florence city centre there is a bus service called ES*Link: it connects Florence to Piombino, twice a day, no intermediate stops, it costs 10 euro. Check on the website www.trenitalia.com to find your itinerary typing Piombino Marittima as your destination point. |
